The landscape photography workshop is designed for amateur enthusiasts wanting to improve their skills in landscape photography. If you’re a beginner and know little about photographing landscapes, then this course is also for you. All we expect is you have an understanding of how to use your camera in Manual or Aperture mode. (See our Introduction to DSLR’s short course if you’re new to photography.)
Our workshops are kept to a maximum of 10 students and a minimum of 2 mentors, allowing us to spend quality time with you, and ensuring you receive the most out of your experience.
The duration for the workshop is 9 hours running from 09:00am to 6:00pm (sunset).
Please note: Subject to your mentors availability workshop durations may be extended to ensure you receive the most out of the course.
On the day you can expect to be guided through a series of location specific lessons that build upon a holistic understanding of the principles of landscape photography.
Your photography mentors have a wealth of experience in landscape photography, as well as a great passion for the outdoors. It is their hope to share and instill in you the techniques and confidence to be able to capture stunning landscape photos yourself.

You get to know us and we get to know you!
In this lesson we’ll discuss what is considered essential gear for landscape photography. We’ll take you through tripods, filters, brackets, cable releases and more. All of which you’ll be able to get hands on with!
We’ll also touch on the importance of shooting RAW and what this means for processing images.
This lesson covers the importance of light, during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset and throughout the day. Further to light we’ll discuss basic composition for landscape photography, how to look for compositions, and things to avoid.
We’ll also go into detail on aperture, and why aperture is the most critical aspect of landscape photography.
From here we’ll be boarding the bus and heading off to our first lesson specific destination.
Upon arrival we will introduce you to the location we’ll do our first shoot in, as well as revisit filters and polarisers outlining the benefits of each. This lesson is designed to instill in you the confidence to use filters in your photography.
Following our first shoot we’ll board the bus once again and make our way to our second shooting destination.
This lesson will be specific to the location where we shoot, and it will cover the various ways that you can perceive and make use of the horizon to create focus and depth in your image.
We will also be revisiting aperture in this lesson, discussing how we can change the depth of field to create attention on focused subject matter.
And then we’re off to the ironic third destination.
At our third destination we will be discussing the Rule of Thirds, leading lines and curves. At this location we’ll guide you through how these principles can be applied to create compositions that balance and have flow, guiding the viewer into the image.
Once we’ve finished our third shoot you’re off to a fully catered lunch! You won’t be let off the lessons that easily though. During and after lunch we’ll introduce our final topic of the day, long exposure photography. This lesson will coincide well with the approaching sunset.
Long exposure photography may take some getting used to, but once you’ve come to grips with it you’ll have captured it in a vibrant and smooth photograph. In this final lesson we will show you how to setup your camera for long exposure photography, disabling image stabilisation and preparing any filters. In this lesson you will need to come up with your own composition, but we will be there to assist!
Your final composition should be a culmination of the following:
Composition based on principles of horizon lines, Rule of Thirds, leading lines etc
Aperture selection to achieve your desired depth of field
Subject matter – what is the focus of this composition
Gear setup, tripod, filters etc
Take some photos!

Course limited to a maximum of 10 students, and a minimum of 2 mentors. This allows us to ensure you achieve the most out of the workshop.
Landscape photography is contingent upon the weather in more ways than one. If a day is clear with blue skies then landscape photography is not optimal – clouds create texture and visual appeal in an image; clouds also help to soften the sunlight.
Of course if the day is overcast and rainy then the workshop may be postponed or cancelled. This will be considered in advance. In the event a workshop is cancelled you will be entitled to a full refund.
If you have specific dietary requirements, please ensure you let us know before the day of the workshop. We will do our best to ensure that all dietary needs are met.
