There are moments when your feet become entangled

There are moments when your feet become entangled in the growth your nerves unsettled by the constricting grasp. Bracken fern caress your shins with tendrils sharp enough to leave welts. You should have stayed on the track. Leeches cling to your shoes but the slippery sticky sensation between your toes assures you at least one has made it's way inside. You should have stayed on the track. Ultimately the ardour is worthwhile the rigour yields reward and your humanity tolerated by a wilderness that has remained in part untamed remembers a place it once used to be. This is Australia. There aren't always tracks.
